Snow Day 2009

It's been a very mild winter this year for us in Colorado, but as we've learned after living here many years, March is our snowiest month. We've been enjoying unseasonably warm Spring weather, but we've been hoping for the other shoe to drop in the form of a big snowstorm. And today we have it!.

Predicting weather in Colorado is either the hardest job in the world or we have bad weather forecasters. They've been predicting snow it seems once a week all month and have not gotten a single flake. This morning we thought it was more of the same. We were told to expect heavy snow by morning and there was just a light dusting.

I had planned on working from home in case of the big one, but based on the little snow received by morning, I decided to go ahead and go in. I regretted my decision even before getting to work. Snow started to get heavy about 2 miles from the office. I stayed for a little bit but then headed home to work for the rest of the day and was back by 10:30. Angie's office closed early too and she was home around 1:00. It was nice to have a snow day with a fire and movies together. I think Sidney got cabin fever and decided to go out to play in it. It's pretty much the first time all year she's had the chance and she took advantage of it. Her only disappointment is this is her Spring Break!

Let it snow!!!

Dakota Ridge Trail

What a busy fun weekend!!! It started with the girls coming down on Friday night. We had our first family dinner in a long time and then watched movies. Sidney and Taylor watched one of their favorites Sidney White while Alex, Angie, and I watched Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

Angie and Sidney had a Saturday shopping day planned while Alex, Taylor, and I went hiking over Dakota Ridge Trail. We started out at Dinosaur Ridge and hiked a couple miles to the top of the mountain and back down (4 miles round trip). From there we drove to Red Rocks for a picnic. Angie bought us a big sub, chips, and drinks to take with us and we enjoyed them in the amphitheatre while watching the others enjoying the beautiful Spring day.

Slideshow from our hike:

Saturday night we all drove to Greeley for Alex's basketball team's annual banquet to celebrate the season. Sunday was much more relaxed. We were so glad the girls came down and had a wonderful time. Alex has been looking for a job for some time and it looks like she has a good lead. She should find out more this week. Wish her luck.

St. Patty's

Things have been a bit hectic at the zoo lately, but then again it pretty much always is. However, it's time for an update, before the pitchforks and torches come to get me for not keeping everyone in the loop.

It was once again Sid's weekend at her dad's so Angie and I took advantage of it by going out to dinner Friday night at Bennett's BBQ. My suggestion...avoid it, we were very disappointed.

Saturday morning we got up early and headed downtown for the St. Patrick's day parade. We started out with breakfast and beverages at The Celtic Tavern. It's been a long time since I've had an Irish Car Bomb at 8:00am. Once the parade started we moved out to our chairs we strategically placed to reserve our spot along the parade route. The parade was lots of fun, but I had no idea it was 4 1/2 hours long!!! It had to be the longest parade EVER. We didn't end up staying for the whole thing, but probably only missed 30-45 minutes of it.

Saturday night I received some comp'd tickets to a local play at the Bug Theatre where we went to see Ten Buddhist Tales. I think both of us are still confused and trying to figure it out, but it was entertaining and different. Before the show Angie and I had dinner at Root Down. Root Down is an organic, completely self powered (I believe with wind power), local buying restaurant which probably belongs in Boulder. Each of us enjoyed this place quite a bit.

Sorry no pictures this time, we took the camera, but left the battery in the charger at home. I think Angie may have some from her phone. If so, I'll update this post if any make the cut.

***UPDATE*** Obviously Angie had pictures from her phone. Love the hats!
